The American Mideast Coalition for Democracy is strenuously opposed to the proposed appointment of Trita Parsi or any other Islamist sympathizer to any position in the US government.
The leftist-radical Center for International Policy and the progressive organization Common Defense, both supporters of the Iran Deal, have put forward a list of candidates they want to see the potential Biden Administration appoint to sensitive national security foreign policy positions. Among them is Trita Parsi of the National Iranian American Council (NIAC) whose policies supported the Islamic Republic of Iran regime’s push for adoption of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) or the “Iran deal” in the US. According to Politico, Parsi is being recommended to oversee Middle East affairs on the National Security Council (NSC).
“I cannot think of a more disastrous appointment,” said AMCD co-chair Tom Harb. “NIAC’s policies have emboldened the Iranian mullahs’ malign behavior for years. Parsi was instrumental in convincing the Obama Administration to abandon the Iranian people and to side with the mullahs during the massive uprisings of 2009 and 2011.”
“During those uprisings, the long-suffering Iranian people pleaded with President Obama for support,” added John Hajjar. “They asked Obama directly: ‘Are you with us or are you with the mullahs?’ The fact that Obama sided with the terrorist regime in Iran remains a shameful stain on our foreign policy. The regime was able to murder and imprison the protestors with impunity. The radical Left has mutilated the meaning of the words ‘progressive’ and ‘liberal’ beyond recognition. Only in their dystopian worldview are the actions of repressing women and minorities, persecuting Christians and other religious and ethnic groups, destabilizing neighboring countries and threatening to wipe others off the face of the globe deemed liberal and progressive. Shame on Biden for warming to the extremist fringe of his party. The mere mention of appointing Trita Parsi to a senior level position at the NSC weakens our allies and the historic Abraham Accords that are making long sought Middle East peace a reality.”
“Furthermore, it doesn’t matter how many dissidents are executed in Iran. NIAC has never and will never utter one word of genuine protest,” stated AMCD vice-chair Hossein Khorram. “NIAC and Parsi actions has benefited the Iranian regime in every controversy, I believe.
“In fact,” Mr. Khorram added, “there is a very good chance NIAC and Mr. Parsi are still under investigation as three U.S. Senators asked Attorney General William Barr ‘to review the activities of the National Iranian American Council (NIAC) and its sister organization NIAC Action for potential violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA)’ in early 2020. Considering the seriousness of these concerns, we believe Mr. Parsi should be barred from communicating with any U.S. Administration on foreign policy and national security for the time being, let alone being appointed to NSC!”
