AMCD Sounds Alarm on China-Iran Deal

April 1, 2021

The American Mideast Coalition for Democracy is sounding the alarm on the new 25-year, $400 billion agreement between China and Iran promising cooperation on trade, communications, and banking as well as military integration, intelligence cooperation and nuclear power development. The deal was actually put together in 2016, but put on hold after President Trump was elected.

“China will gain a steady supply of oil and gas, destroying US sanctions placed on Iran by the Trump administration,” said AMCD co-chair, Tom Harb. “With the size of China’s economy, it can easily purchase all the oil and gas Iran wants to sell. This will bolster Iran’s position and advance its ambition to become a regional hegemon. Had Trump remained in power until 2024, Iran likely would have been so weakened that the regime might have actually fallen. With Biden in office, all bets are off. This agreement will allow China to station 5,000 military personnel Iran. It’s a shame, because the resilient Iranian people didn’t allow the Communist Soviet Union have a foothold in Iran back in the 70’s, but now the mullahs have opened the door to Communist China.”

“Not only have the mullahs been given an economic life-line, but China has spies burrowed into military and educational institutions all over the world, including in Israel’s military-industrial complex,” added AMCD co-chair, John Hajjar. “China will now undoubtedly share their information with Iran. In addition to that, China may also share their advanced weaponry directly with Iran, including advanced missile technology. And China will have full access to Iranian bases, which brings them fully into Middle East as a major player.”

“We also have reports that Iran intends to isolate its citizens from the internet,” began AMCD co-chair Hossein Khorram. “The mullahs want complete control of what information Iranians can access and China will make that possible. The old paradigm of the ‘closed society,’ where government has complete control over what its citizens know of the outside world, is coming back with a vengeance thanks to China. A new Cold War between West and East is inevitable.”

“While America is turned inward, completely consumed with our internal political and cultural divisions, our enemies are making major geopolitical moves which will change the world in ways we can’t even imagine,” added AMCD Executive Director, Rebecca Bynum. “The US is sleepwalking into an increasingly dangerous world situation. It is even probable that the China-Iran nexus will spread to countries like Venezuela, already an ally of Iran, where a missile installation could easily reach our mainland.”

AMCD calls for Congressional hearings on the China-Iran deal. We need to know all the details on this agreement and we need a robust debate on its potential consequences.
