WCCR Memo to Paris Conference to Assist Lebanon

August 9, 2020

To all participants:

The World Council of the Cedars Revolution is reaching out to the delegates meeting in Paris to assist Lebanon with the following talking points:

– On behalf of the Lebanese people, the World Council of the Cedars Revolution is strongly opposed to the idea of sending aid to those affected by the recent Beirut blast through the Hezbollah-backed Lebanese government.

– It is also opposed to sending any aid through non-governmental organizations that are linked in one way or another to the ruling authority in Lebanon.

– We would recommend sending international aid directly to the Lebanese people with the help of UNIFIL or other international non-governmental organizations, provided that is distributed in areas not controlled by Hezbollah or its supporters and is subject to the  specifications stipulated in UN Security Council Resolution 1559.

– We wish that your esteemed conference would call for the gradual implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1559 in order to establish Hezbollah-free zones and give the Lebanese people hope for a safe, joyful and prosperous future.
