AMCD Expresses Concern About Human Rights in Lebanon

December 1, 2025

The American Middle East Coalition for Democracy expresses its profound concern regarding recent actions taken by Lebanese security agencies. It has come to our attention that Lebanese citizens are being unjustly summoned for merely maintaining communication with relatives in Israel.

Our coalition, based in Washington, is steadfast in its commitment to promoting democracy and protecting human rights. We call on Lebanese security agencies and authorities to honor their commitments by responsibly exercising their authority, confiscating illegal weapons, and working towards restoring Lebanon’s standing as a respected nation. It is alarming that citizens are being targeted for engaging in religious and social contacts with Israelis, which are rights guaranteed under international law, provided these communications do not involve military or security matters detrimental to Lebanon.

We also emphasize the crucial need for security and judicial bodies to remain free from political manipulation. In today’s world, Lebanon is under international scrutiny, and the era of infringing upon citizens’ rights and using intimidation tactics must come to an end.

To address these pressing concerns, our coalition will be reaching out to members of the U.S. Congress and the U.S. Department of State. We will brief them on the situation in Lebanon and advocate for their intervention to pressure Beirut authorities into halting these measures. It is imperative that the security and judicial institutions cease being instruments of political subjugation
